Does Nail Polish Kill Ringworm
When I got ringworm, I embarked upon a iii-month journey before I finally got rid of the rash. This is my story.
What Is Ringworm?
Ringworm isn't a worm at all. Information technology's a fungal infection that is not only contagious just also pretty embarrassing. In that location are many ways to catch it: from people or pets that carry it, or even brushing upwards confronting something that has been infested with the fungus. Jock itch and athlete'due south foot are also related forms of the fungus. I accept heard of people catching these infections past sharing showers, toilets, and even from dirty clothes in your hamper.
My Feel
I recently got a example of ringworm almost the size of a dime on the inside of my thigh shut to a articulation. This was a problem because my task requires me to move for eight or more hours a day, and my clothes would rub off any treatment I applied to the infection. The post-obit is a chronicle of my frustrating three-month journeying of trying to cure this irritating rash.
The remedies covered in this article are:
- Over-the-counter creams
- Rubbing alcohol
- Clear nail polish
- Prescription creams
- Natural remedies, specifically tobacco and lime
- Bleach
- Garlic oil
- Urine
- Dandruff shampoo
Over-the-Counter Foam
The offset thing I tried for my ringworm was over-the-counter cream. Common anti-fungal creams include Tinactin and Lamisil. The cream I had in my house were expired, left over from a previous infection. I figured information technology should withal piece of work. So I applied it twice a twenty-four hours for ii weeks, covering it with a cast after each application.
If anti-fungal creams sit on the shelf they lose some, if non all, of their effectiveness over long periods of time. Still, fifty-fifty these old creams made my infection fade. After a few days, the original spot had all but disappeared, but I had grown two larger spots on either side of the original expanse. Both were larger than the original and itched.
I think my mistake was in using a bandage with strong adhesive. When I pulled off the bandage, I pulled it off quickly so information technology wouldn't hurt, but in doing so I pulled off the top layer of skin on either side of the infection, exposing the area to catching ringworm.
Rubbing Alcohol every bit an Anti-Fungal
When the cream didn't seem to be working, I looked for other ways to kill the fungus and decided to effort rubbing booze. I read online that applying it twice a day would impale the infection. To keep from spreading the ringworm to the canteen or anything else I was using, I soaked q-tips in the alcohol and rubbed information technology over the infected expanse. I did not put the q-tips back into the alcohol.
I tried the rubbing alcohol for a couple of days but when I applied information technology, the burning sensation was quite painful. I thought I could deal with it if the infection would go away, merely information technology didn't work. If I were to do it again I might soak a slice of cotton in the alcohol and hold it downwardly over the spot for several minutes.
Tin Articulate Nail Shine Suffocate Fungus?
I decided to try another home remedy I read about online: clear nail polish. Information technology supposedly suffocates the mucus.
I tried this for over two weeks, and, similar the rubbing alcohol, it burned. If you effort this, be sure to utilize a q-tip, not the nail smoothen brush. Don't double-dip the q-tip either. If you lot practice, yous can spread the fungus to other parts of your body or to someone else if they apply the nail smooth.

After the first week, the two spots that had each grown half-dollar size on my thigh started to fade. The only trouble was the nail smoothen would not stay put considering of my constant motility at work.
Though some of the ringworm faded, the patch right in my groin still held out. This surface area was hard to treat since information technology was right in my joint. No thing how I applied the nail smoothen it connected to grow.
Prescription Creams for an Infection
I was so frustrated. At this point, I had had this infection for about two months. I decided to spend the money to see a medico. When I told her I had ringworm, she took a quick look and wrote a prescription. I was diagnosed and kicked out inside 15 minutes. We won't talk virtually how much I paid to have the doc look at me for that piddling fleck of time.
I had the prescription filled and started applying it to the infection, which at this signal had grown to the size of an orange. It was way as well large to comprehend with a cast at this point, and then I made sure I was irresolute dress regularly and washing them in hot water to kill any spores that might accept found their way into the hamper.
The cream was a 10-solar day handling, and it did help. At the end of the 10 days, the band was no longer visible. It wasn't gone completely, and I was left with a large ruddy spot that didn't itch anymore.
Lime, Tobacco, and Garlic: Natural Remedies for Infection?
When the prescription cream failed to completely get rid of the ringworm, I finally decided to call in my family's matriarchs for help. I contacted one of the older women in my family unit and asked her how she dealt with information technology when nosotros were kids. She told me about a foreign home remedy. She would smoke one-half a cigarette, then open up it up and rub the unused tobacco onto the spot and let the chemicals absorb into the skin. From what I understand, the chemicals will impale the fungus almost immediately. She said that I probably would not have to use it more than twice before it went away.
The problem with the tobacco remedy is that I am not a smoker. She as well told me that limes would do the same affair, then I decided to attempt the lime first.
I cut a piece of lime and then lay it over the worst spot on my leg. It burned as the acidic juices seeped out of the lime and into the infection. I let it sit down there for about 15 minutes. I did this twice a day for some other week and a half. When I didn't accept the fourth dimension to lay the lime, I applied what I had left of the prescription cream. When I ran out of the prescription foam, I sprayed on an athlete's foot spray. Finally, the entire affair faded away.
Garlic Oil every bit an Anti-Fungal Remedy?
There is an former wives' remedy that uses garlic oil to kill the ringworm fungus. Yous can do this in several ways. Yous can purchase garlic oil in gel capsules from a health nutrient store or your local pharmacy. They're relatively expensive, but you lot will have a long term supply and garlic supplements are salubrious anyhow.
The second and cheaper manner is to buy a caput of garlic and cut one of the cloves in one-half. So rub clove onto the infected expanse, releasing the oils from the clove. You will not become equally much oil as with the capsules, but this method may provide some relief.
Exist sure to buy garlic oil, rather than garlic-infused olive oil, which is not the same affair. There is most likely not plenty garlic in the infused oil to do any good.
Bleach every bit a Cure?
One remedy I've heard of, which frankly scares me, is using bleach. This seems risky. Straight bleach will burn your pare if you go out it on besides long. I also know that a few drops in a gallon of water volition kill all the bacteria and brand the h2o rubber to beverage, and diluted bleach is likewise used to clean swimming pools. So the question is, how much bleach do you lot need to kill the ringworm but non harm your pare?
Some of the suggestions I take plant online say to mix one part water with one function bleach. Then dab the bleach onto the pare and let information technology dry. They suggest you lot leave the bleach there to do its piece of work. The side by side day wash the area and utilise again.
Again, this treatment concerns me. I think the bleach volition damage your skin, merely it is a cure that's out there.
Fresh Urine as a Cure?
This is another i of those old wives' tales. Practise I want y'all to pee on yourself? No, I don't. I think that is gross. Just if you are at your wit'southward end and accept nothing else to try, and so certain, why not?
Urine does have medicinal properties, according to some traditions. I have heard that urine will remove the stinging of a jellyfish. Some people say urine is sterile, but this isn't entirely true. Past the fourth dimension it leaves the body, urine has collected some bacteria. Still, it is said to have antiseptic properties.
Can Dandruff Shampoo Be a Cure?
Most dandruff shampoos incorporate pyrithione zinc, which is believed to prevent and slow the spread of ringworm when used on the unabridged body. While it may not cure it, if yous have information technology, the shampoo may prevent it from spreading further.
Nicotine Patches: Get Rid of Infection and Quit Smoking at the Aforementioned Fourth dimension?
My mother-in-law suggested rubbing partially smoked tobacco on the infected expanse. Similarly many people take found that the nicotine—the addictive chemical in tobacco—can kill the infection.
I think this is a fantastic remedy, provided you're already using the nicotine patch to curb a smoking habit. If it really helps with two problems at the same time, then you have a double win. How many times during your life does this happen?

I tried putting chopped up pieces of garlic on the area. The garlic eats away the bacteria. I chopped upward some garlic and placed the pieces on a napkin. I slowly and carefully placed the napkin on the surface area, making sure that the garlic is roofing the entire infected surface area, and so I taped down the sides of the napkin then the garlic would stay in place. (You could also use a cast). It worked for me. I could see a divergence within two days.

I tried the OTC creams every bit I was recommended by my ob since it happened to surface the day earlier I went in. @bearding: It took most iii-v days for my case of ringworm to go away. Mine did not peel, information technology only faded abroad. I suggest you go on going for a few more days as long as information technology is not bleeding. If information technology is haemorrhage, I suggest you lot become run into a real dr. I am not i. I just told the story about what I experienced. Let me know how it goes.

me again, so i've been rubbing lime on the ring worn at present for 3 days on when i woke uop in the morning, it seeming thight and seems as though it had been haemorrhage or pus had been coming out of information technology and stale upward, when i was cleaning the expanse to apply hydrocortisone, the line around the ringworm began to skin off, but simply some of it, is that a skilful affair or a bad affair?

Fascinating (and Effective?) Ringworm Home Remedies
Robert T Gasperson (writer) from South Carolina on July 06, 2010:
The nail shine only works on a pocket-size infection and simply if it is in a spot that does non get rubbed all day. When I had it is was in a joint so the nail polish did not stay on very long. I finally used the lime. That worked in three days. Try the lime. It is dandy stuff.
bearding on July 05, 2010:
do information technology really work with nail polish or what do yous exercise to become rid of it
Robert T Gasperson (author) from Due south Carolina on June 17, 2010:
@bearding: On the worse example of ringworm, smash pollish didn't piece of work for me. I placed a slice of lime over the spot for several minutes twice a day. It went abroad in 2 days when I did that. Endeavour lime. I found it worked faster than Nail polish. It will burn. Exist enlightened.

@anonymous: Well the ringworm on my thigh, the smaller of the 2 that i have, seems to be going abroad and it'southward been less than 24hrs that I applied the nail smoothen. I just use nailpolish remover on a newspaper towel and pressed information technology on the spot for x minutes to remove the shine. and so reapplied it.
The larger and showtime ane that is on my arm doesn't seem to be changing at all. I put some more than boom shine on that 1 but now also.

I merely recently got ringworm inside the past calendar week. I didn't have a clue that it could have been ringworm when I first noticed the spot on my inner forearm. Information technology itched similar crazy! after a couple days of it beingness there and me itching information technology, I now have another one on my thigh. Today I found out that information technology's probably ringworm.
I've been researching how to get rid of information technology for awhile and the 2 things that I've institute that people say piece of work all-time is nailpolish or bleach. I've been putting triple antibotic cream on it for a couple days, come to find out that antibotics will not work. I'g kinda worried almost trying the bleach affair as some people said it burns your peel. So I just now put some more than of the triple antibotic cream on both places then put articulate nailpolish and covered information technology with a bandaid. It does burn, but it's bearable and I hate pain then information technology must not be that bad.
I'll postal service tomorrow any changes, but keep in mind that I've only had it for less than a week.
